Week Of Cheap Fun

As spring break is approaching and you're wondering what you can do with all that free time you might want to consider my "Week of Cheap Fun". This week of fun option will give you something to do every day around Grand Rapids that will either cost you very little or nothing at all. And it really is an EVERY DAY idea. So let's take a look...

Monday
-Head to the Public museum for a day of culture. If you have GR as your city on your ID than you can get in free as well as get other tickets free, should you choose to bring someone along. Right now they have the Big Bugs exhibit going on and if you want to check that out as well it will only cost you $2! Off to a good start.

Tuesday
-The Grand Rapids Art Museum opens its doors to the public for free on Tuesdays from 1-5pm. You do not need to be a GR resident for this one. The only thing you'll have to pay is for parking and right around the corner is that lovely parking ramp that gives an hour free. It's right by Louis Benton Steakhouse at 35 Ionia Ave. NW. You coul also try parking at the Gerald R. Ford Museum. I do that all the time since it's free. You can check out my first little adventure to the museum here.

Wednesday
-It's After Dark night at the B.O.B. and you can get sweet deals there. They have billiards and Wii for free. Microbews are just $.99 cents and a 3 topping pizza is only $3.99! Be prepared to show your college ID whether it's current or expired. The website doesn't say anything about that but another advertisement mentioned it. Better to be prepared.

Thursday
-It's time to act like a kid and enjoy one of their hotspots! The Grand Rapids Childrens Museum offers a discounted night on Thursdays. From 5-8pm anyone can get in for just $1.50. Three hours of childishness is good for you.

Friday
-More often than not Schuler's Bookstores will have a free concert on Friday night. You have to check their website to find out what's on the schedule that week. If there isn't a free concert you can always head to the movies for just $2.99! Celebration Cinema at the Woodland mall has all their movie tickets priced at $3.99. You can get them for $1 less if you print off this LAV VIP card and show it at the box office. I've been using mine for a long time.

Saturday
-Today is the day you learn a new skill. Home Depot has clinics every Saturday at each of their locations all the time. They usually start at 11am and sometimes even have some at 2pm for late risers. Here's a recent post I wrote about the ones happening in March. Home Repair Services also has free skills classes on Saturdays from 10am-noon. You can find out which class they're offering over here. Both Home Depot and Home Repair Services offer these classes free of charge and there's no registration needed at either of them. Just show up!

Sunday
-You could start the fun by heading to the zoo. It is open daily until 4pm it looks like and it'll only cost you $3.50 to get in through May 7th. This could be your afternoon fun. And to close off the evening you could rent a movie either for free using one of these codes here or just pay $1 for them at any redbox or blockbuster express location. Eye on Video on Plainfield usually has a list of new release movies for $1 throughout the month as well.

So now there's no reason to be bored! There's lots to do around GR that won't cost you much or anything at all. Have fun!
