Be at a volunteer at the Public Museum

If you have a love of history or at least the Public Museum you could be a volunteer there! Volunteer positions include Museum Guides, Exhibit Interpreters, Greeters or Gift Shop Attendants. If interested you should call 456-3577. Volunteers give interpretive tours describing the cultural and social history of the permanent attractions of both the Public Museum and the Voigt House Victorian Museum. The Public Museum will also need volunteers to help in its fall temporary exhibit, Leonardo da Vinci's Machines in Motion, running September 5, 2009 – January 3, 2010. Volunteers receive free admission to the Voigt House Victorian Museum and the Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium as well as discounts at the gift shop and the Museum café. Volunteer opportunities exist for weekday, weekend or evening shifts. Sounds exciting to me!!

Under the weather

Hey all! I think I caught the flu bug so I don't have the energy for my usual posting. Maybe the weekend off will help. But just to give you a couple of leads this weekend check out Williams Sonoma technique classes in the Woodland Mall on Sunday and Monday. Call and sign up. And I believe either Home Depot or Lowes has a workshop tomorrow. And now I need to blow my nose.

Finding Work When Times are Tough

The Kentwood branch of KDL is offering a class tonight at 6:30pm for free. You'll learn the "ins and outs" of finding work and staying employable in the Internet age, including balancing ‘reactive’ versus ‘proactive’ work search methods. You'll also get tips on posting resumes to websites, using KDL online resources, and other methods of finding those ‘hidden’ jobs that are here in West Michigan.

King Kong at Public Museum

Give a pint get a pint

Culver's on 28th st. is partnering with The American Red Cross to try and reach their goal of getting 27 pints of blood donated. On Friday you can stop by from 12-7pm and donate a pint of blood and then get your coupon for a free pint of their frozen custard. They are located at 6300 28th st. in Grand Rapids. Kids consignment sale THIS Friday!

Sunshine Community Church has been doing this consignment sale for a while and I had the opportunity to check it out last time with a friend. It's a huge garage sale of kids and baby items of all sorts. It's fantastic for parents with kids. This Friday you can check it out for yourself at 9am. This event sounds so intriguing to me. The West Michigan Film Video Alliance puts this on the fourth Wednesday of the month. It's an open mic night of sorts for those who'd like to screen their completed films or works in progress to their peers and the public. The cost is $5 to get in.

Beyond Elections Film showing at the DAAC

Tomorrow night you can head over to the DAAC to catch this film about rethinking our notions of democracy. The film will look at grassroots democracy movements in several different countries like Argentina, Canada and more. There will be a time of discussion afterward if you want to hang around. The show starts at 7pm and costs only $3 to get in. Should be interesting and provoking...hopefully.

Knitting Nights at KDL

FREE photos!

Canon has an interesting site to check out for some free photos. It looks like you can "test" out some different printers by uploading some pictures and having them print them out and mail them to you. At least I think that's what's going on. It looks like you can get a 4x6, 8x10 and an 8.5x11 photo printed and mailed to you for free.
