Animal Encounters

Animal Encounters is the name of the event that the Plainfield KDL is having on July 2nd at 6:45pm. You will be able to see live animals and learn how they inspire art. If nothing else, I'm intrigued.

Parkapalooza: Pet Show

This is an event for people and their pets. The website said you had to register but I'm not sure if they would really turn you away if you just wanted to see the pet show. People will be bringing their pets to shown and even photographed. Obviously, not in the professional way but in the fun way. So if you like watching pet shows than stop on by and crash the party! It's July 2nd at 2pm.

Duct Tape Craft Time

It's called the handyman's best friend and I believe it. My husband loves Red Green who swears by it. It's duct tape my friends. And now days it does more than hold your car together. It is a craft section all its own. It wasn't that long ago that a couple of teens from this area made their prom outfits completely out of duct tape. So we've definitely come a long way.

All that to say that any teens interested in doing some crazy crafts with duct tape can go to the Alpine Twp. branch of KDL on July 1st from 6-7pm. This is FREE but they ask that you register. Their website says there are still openings so just call in the morning. Check it out here.

Crafts as a Way of Service

Teens in grades 6-12 can go to the Alpine Twp. branch of KDL on July 1st for a very special time of creating unique bowls that will be used to raise money for a local food pantry. It's called the Empty Bowls Project. This event requires registration but their website says there's still opening so just call asap to make sure they know you're coming. It starts at 1pm and is FREE. Here's their website link.

Blues on the Mall

Don't forget that Wednesday nights around 6:30-7pm you can head to Rosa Parks Circle downtown for some FREE blues music. LAV FM sponsors this event and it's a blast! You might want to dress a little warmer this week. And as always...bring a chair to sit on. The party goes until around 10pm I think.

Movie Time at the Library

The Kentwood branch of KDL is showing a movie on July 1st at 3pm. I don't know what the movie is so you best call ahead. This is always a nice thing to do since it's FREE and gets you out of the house.

Here's a great way to start the month - Arby's is offering a FREE regular beef 'n cheddar sandwich when you purchase any size pop. This should cost you around $1.50 total for the sandwich and drink. Not bad, huh?

Plugged Open Mic Night

Billy's in Eastown is having another open mic night on Tuesday. This is the night where bands can come and play for open mic. It's a little different than the normal accoustic show. It starts at 9pm and there's no cover to get in.

Dancing in the Park

Don't forget that Tuesdays is the night that the Grand Rapids Original Swing Society hosts lessons at Rosa Parks Circle at 7pm. You can catch the lesson at first and then just stay for the DJ music afterwards until 10pm. They ask that you donate $3 to help cover the costs.

FREE Chocolate Cake

Romano's Macaroni Grill is offering a FREE piece of chocolate cake. You must print out this coupon in order to get it. But here's the scoop - you can't use two in the same party. So if you and a friend go you can't each get one. It looks like you need to dine in but I'm not sure. The good thing is that the coupon is good until July 20th so you have a while to figure out the best way to get this deal. I think if you work on that end of town or grab lunch at a cheaper place you could just get your cake there afterward. Just a thought.

The East Grand Rapids branch of KDL is having Lawn Games on June 30th at 3pm. This is for teens in 6-12 grade and is completely FREE! They'll be playing games like horseshoes, badminton, frisbee and even croquet. What teenager knows how to play croquet? This would be a great time to learn.
