The other day I had such an amazing tightwad of a time that I just had to share my good fortune with everyone. I hope this little note will inspire someone to try going a whole day living like a tightwad and see just how enjoyable it can be. It went something like this:
First thing in the morning - I do a yoga video that I bought from Goodwill for $1 saving me the cost and embarassment of going to a yoga class.
Then I eat a wholesome breakfast of oatmeal (the whole oatmeal container cost me $1) with some strawberries I found the day before in the fruit clearance section at Meijer for less than $1. (the key is to eat the clearance fruit right away)
After I'm ready for my day I check in to one of my yahoo groups called grfreecycle (to use this you must have a yahoo e-mail) to see what people are offering for free. I find some flower pots up for grabs and I'm the first person to respond so they're mine! I schedule it into my day to stop and pick up the free pots.
I then head out for my day and my first stop is Pakmail on Alpine where I drop off boxes that they can reuse. This cuts down on my trash bill and is a great way to recycle.
I swing on over to Once upon a child where I make $35 selling some children's items. They even bought old VHS tapes!
Next I take my daughter to work and since I'm near the library I stop by to catch up on my favorite magazines for free. And while I'm there I pick up a movie for later that night. All for the low price of nothing.
Then it's on to pick up my free flower pots.
After I eat dinner I head about 2 miles down the road to catch the sunset just behind a beautiful country landscape. Beauty, peace, quite and free.
Once I pick up my daughter and we're back at the house we have a nice evening of watching a new release movie together. Since we don't have cable the library provides us free entertainment.
The night is over and I'm snuggling into bed and enjoying my suede Target comforter and soft pajama set I found brand new at Goodwill.
To conclude I:
Didn't spend any money
Ate healthy
Exercised like the wealthy
Saved the planet and my trash bill
Made some extra cash
Got some free flower pots
Scored a free movie rental
Enjoyed God's green earth
Had great family time
And fell asleep soundly in my recent good deals
So this is a peak into my tightwad life. What's a day like in your tightwad life? I'd love to hear from you so I can be inspired myself. Feel free to e-mail me your story. The first one I receive will be the winner of a custom made reusable grocery bag made by yours truly. So get to typing!
