I thought you couldn't double coupons in Michigan but slowly I've been finding out about more and more places that are doing it. And this week I found out that Kmart in Grand Rapids is honoring coupons up to $1.99. Which means that you can't use $2 coupons. I wasn't sure if this was true or not so I called the Kmart on Plainfield and spoke to a manager. Here's what he told me:
1. Can not use $2 coupons (but I think their ad said you could)
2. You can only get 25 coupons doubled per customer per day (make several trips)
3. You can only get 4 of the same item using doubled coupons
4. BOGO sales are not included in the coupon doubling.
5. There will be no overages - If your coupons total $3.50 off and it only costs $2 you won't get $1.50 back.
Thanks to sarah's deals for letting me know we can double as well.

I recently moved from the east side of the state, and they are still doing double coupons at Meijers, Krogers & Walmart (probably others as well). I think that once you get past Lansing out this way, the double coupons go away!
I tried to find out a reason for this, and all I really could find for an explanation so far was through a news site from Traverse City...sounds like it is a competition issue with the different chains, which is BS any way you look at it. I can see how it might apply the further north you get, but in the GR area there are plenty of grocery stores. I read on one website that a woman heard through the grapevine that since Meijers has a monopoly in the Grand Rapids area, they threatened to crush the competition if they started offering double coupons. Hmmmmm...that really makes me want to shop at Meijers....that's NOT putting the customer first. Their customer service has really taken a *youknowwhat* in the past few years anyway, so this isn't a surprise to me.
I have also heard Meijers pretty much crushed Krogers in this area. Not that I've ever been a big Krogers fan...
Here's a link to the Traverse City news video that I found...
