The Public Museum is having what they call 71 Days of Fun! They have reduced their admission prices, extended low admission prices to students, added lots of fun activities and are even offering FREE carousel rides every day. Here's the press release I got...
The Public Museum offers visitors a chance for summer fun out of the sun from June 15 – September 4, 2009 during
71 Days of Fun. Hours and admission prices will change, and Museum staff has additional programming planned each day.

During the 12-week period, the Museum will be open 9-5 Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays; and 9-9 Tuesdays. It will be closed Sundays. Adults and Seniors will pay just $5 general admission (a savings of $2-3) and the $3 rate for children 3-17 will be extended to college students with valid ID. Kids under 3 are free. Carousel rides will be free every day and guests can enjoy themed daily activities.

Story Time Mondays will include three presentations of Story Time with the Mighty Wurlitzer as well as Book in a Backpack readings. Treasure Tuesdays will focus on fun with the Museum’s collections and the idea of collecting. Wacky Wednesdays will offer hands-on, “make it and take it” crafts activities. Behind the Scenes Thursdays will include tours of Museum spaces not generally open to the public including the exhibit fabrication labs and the control room behind the planetarium dome. Old Fashioned Fridays will make the Streets of Old Grand Rapids come alive with manned shops, Victorian costumed interpreters and parlor games. Science Saturdays will bring active, physical science experiments and learning into the Galleria. Every Tuesday evening, with the exception of August 11, the Museum will stay open until 9 pm and the planetarium will offer a 7 pm showing of the family-friendly Solar System Safari for $3 and an 8 pm showing of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon laser light show for $7. Guests can experience this classic artist as never before, immersed in sound and accompanied by dazzling visual effects in one of West Michigan ’s most unique entertainment events.

Regular Museum hours and admission rates will resume September 5, 2009 with the opening of the next temporary exhibit, Leonardo da Vinci: Machines in Motion. For information, go to

My mother is coming into town in a week and I plan on taking her to join in on the fun.
