Car & Driver FREE subscription

Another one year subscripion FREE to Car & Driver.

Car Care Clinic

The Plainfield KDL is offering a FREE car care clinic on March 16th from 6-7:30pm. It will be presented by Hams Automotive. Even though there is no charge for this their flier says they will be giving a bag of "goodies" to anyone that attends. You can sign up directly at the library or call them at 647-3930 to register.

Save $ without Savings Angel

I see Savings Angel plastered everywhere these days and I love the concept. Except for the fact that you have to pay $20 a month for their services. I'm sure that makes me an extreme tightwad but I just like thinking of it as smart. Why pay for this service when you can get it for free.

To my understanding you have to pay $20 a month for Savings Angel to locate the ads in your area and match them up with coupons to give you an idea of where you can save. The idea of someone else doing all the work for you is fantastic. And if nobody was offering it for free I'd probably join. But there are plenty of people that ARE doing it for free.

Just before I started to write this post I checked my e-mail and had 3 posting newsletters that broke down this weeks sales at places like Meijer, Walgreens, CVS and more. They list what's on sale and they match up coupons from several different sources, including ones you can print from the internet. Sometimes they tell me what the final price is. They include things like Register Rewards and rebates from Walgreens, Extra Care Bucks from CVS and Single Check Rebates from Rite Aid. They factor in every way imaginable to save money and get things for free.

With so many websites out there doing the work for me without charging me I can pass on savings angel. So I'm here to spread the wealth. Get ready because I'm going to list several of my sources. Here goes:

Stretching a Buck
Deal Seeking Mom
The "Cent"sible Sawyer
Money Saving Mom
Sarah's Deals - I believe she's also in GR
Most of these will have the option of signing up for e-mails similar to what I do. You might have to dig around on their site but they're there. The only one I couldn't find that for was on Sarah's Deals.

You can also go to the store websites and sign up to receive their weekly ads by e-mail which will also help you to make sure the ads they're promoting are available in your area. I haven't really had any problems except with WalMart and every now and then Target. If I have a shopping list of 10 things at WalMart based on their e-mails I might only get four things at the quoted price. Our store is usually more expensive.

So as you look at tomorrows coupons I would encourage you to check out these sites. You'd be amazed how much stuff you can get for free or hardly anything.

Green Cleaning Class

According to On the Town, Baby Beloved Inc. is offering a green cleaning class on Sunday from 4-6pm. I looked over their website but couldn't find an events page to confirm. I'm not sure if there's a cost to this class or not. But their website had some interesting information for new mothers. They have a lot of services and are a donation bank for breast milk. Check it out here at WZZM 13. I just haven't had the time to call but if you're interested their number is 977-LOVE.

**UPDATE

I just got an e-mail from them confirming this post. Here's a copy of it for more info. on the event..."Please join us, Sunday, March 15, at 4:00 to learn the advantages for you, your family, and the environment of cleaning "green." Class will cover the dangers of traditional cleaning products, what alternatives are available commercially, as well as how to make your own safe and effective cleaning products. Participants will make a cleaning product in class and take home cleaning "recipes". Hosted by baby beloved, inc. and The Green Life Market. No charge. Held at baby beloved, inc. RSVP to 616-977-LOVE (5683) by Saturday, March 14th. Class size limited."

FREE Art shows this week - end

Here's a couple of art exhibits to be aware of...

Tonight!!
The Forest Hills Fine Arts Center is opening a show for textile artist Jennifer Gould. Her work is probably what people refer to as whimsical, because it consists of dolls/ fabric wall pieces. The opening begins at 6 until 7:30. Cost: Free!
Location:
The Forest Hills Fine Arts Center
600 Forest Hill.

Friday
The very talented Kelly Allen is graduating with her MFA from Kendall . Her work “Giving presence” opens on Friday at 7:30 pm the Byrneboehm Gallery. Kelly’s work is awesome; there is an element of collage, they are light, airy while constructing an articulated spatial sense. I highly recommend this show for students, artists, collectors, old guard, new blood, whomever and everyone. Location 959 Lake Drive SE Cost Free!

These have been taken from an e-mail newsletter called Word on the Street by Jen Schaub at g-rad.org

I'll be posting some more from her newsletter tomorrow so be on the look out all you artsy folks...

e.l.f. cosmetics giveaway

I got this e-mail from Deal Seeking Mom. I'm just going to copy and paste.

"Purchase $20 of their products (most are $1 ea.), and receive a $25 Restaurants.com gift card and a free Fandango movie ticket.

Plus shop through Cashbaq to get an additional 5% back on your purchase (plus a $5 bonus for registering if you’re a new customer)!

That’s a LOT Of makeup for $20, so maybe this is a good time to start putting away stocking stuffers. Or maybe you want to split an order with a good friend, and then have a girls night out with dinner and a movie!"

I liked her ideas! It's never too early to start Christmas shopping...especially when it gets you free stuff! If you'd like to go through Cashbaq.com you can just click on their button in my sidebar. It'll take you right to their site.

**This offer is only good through the 15th of March!

Johnson's Buddies soap - FREE

I've been stocking up on these lately and it never dawned on me to share this with you until now. Here's some coupons that you can print and take in to Walmart to get these bars of soap for free. I've priced them elsewhere and Walmart is the one place where I got them absolutely free. I had to hunt for them, though. Check the actual baby department. That's where it was at the Alpine store. Here's the coupons...

* $1/1 Johnson’s Buddies (IE) (Firefox)
* $2/2 Johnson’s Buddies (IE) (Firefox)
* $2/2 Johnson’s Shampoo, Conditioner or Buddies (IE) (Firefox)
* $3/3 Johnson’s Products (IE) (Firefox)

Last time I heard there was still trouble with the $3/3 coupon but it never hurts to keep trying.

FREE Travel size product from Bath & Body Works

Bath & Body Works is running a promotion where you can purchase ANYTHING and receive a travel size True Blue Spa item. So if you'd like to try it out and you're going to use the other coupon I've posted anyways maybe you can try having that be your purchase or go for a $1 gift bag if they still got 'em. Not a bad deal, though.

crafting coupons

I'm a huge craftster! I love sewing and making things. I have small little "business" called saved from waste (savedfromwaste.blogspot.com). So I am always looking for coupons to places that offer craft supplies. So here's an inside scoop for you: You can sign up at Joann Fabrics and even Hobby Lobby to get regular e-mails which will include a coupon. I usually get a 40% off regular price coupon from both of these locations. This is also nice since I don't get the Sunday paper. I never buy something at Hobby Lobby full price. It's either on sale already for 50% off or I wait until it's not on sale and use my 40% off coupon. Here's a link to some coupons for Joann Fabrics.

FREE Vegetarian starter kit

I'm not going to be advocating for any issues other than the economic one so don't get scared. Here's why I'm posting this: Meat is one of our most costly grocery expenses. If we could attempt to change our diets to a possible vegetarian one we could potentially save a lot of money. So this starter kit could come in handy. Maybe you could try going vegetarian just 3 times a week and see how it affects your budget. Here's a link for you to download this FREE starter kit.

FREE birthday meals

Check out what a fellow reader sent me about birthday freebies..."I got this flyer from The Gilmore Collection (www.thegilmorecollection.com) Celebrate your birthday month with:Free Lobster Dinner at Gill's on your birthday (616) 356-2000Free Lobster Ravioli at Mangiamo the week of your birthday (616) 742-0600Free Lobster Club at Blue Water Grill the month of your birthday (616) 363-5900offers valid with purchase of another full price entree, reservations required."

I clicked through to their website and scrolled down (as I listened to the cool music) to check out what all they had to offer. You'll find a whole list of offers at their locations. Anything from 1/2 off wine to $3.99 Asian small plates at Monkey Bar. It's worth a look.

I'm also wanting to highlight something I thought was interesting on their site. I saw that they had a button called barter. I was intrigued so I clicked through to find a whole list of services they are willing to barter for! I love bartering because it takes money completely out of the picture. So here's a list of those services for you to check out. Who knows maybe you'll be able to work with them.

Blue Man group at the GRCM

In case you didn't know...the Grand Rapids Children's museum hosts a family night on Thursdays from 5-8pm where you can get in for $1. And now there is a special exhibit. Here's a description from grnow.com - Blue Man Group ~ Making Waves. The 1,500 square foot exhibit, designed to unite science and art, offers a playful, innovative approach to science & sound, with a multi-sensory exploration that will thrill visitors of all ages. The Making Waves exhibit will continue through May 31, 2009 at the Grand Rapids location at 22 Sheldon Avenue NE.

Throughout the interactive exhibit, Blue Man Group ~ Making Waves, participants can see, feel, hear, and create sound in the fun-filled signature Blue Man style. Within the visually luminescent atmosphere, the exhibit includes an array of Blue Man Group instruments encouraging exploration and discovery. The sounds emitted from the instruments are as unique as their names: Slide-u-lum, Build-u-lum, Sand Drum and Theremin. The Making Waves experience culminates in the JBL®-equipped Surround Sound Theater, where engineering genius combines with a musical piece by Blue Man Group illustrating the wonder and joy of sound.

Co-founder of Blue Man Group, Chris Wink says, “After years of being able to express ourselves creatively on stage, it has become increasingly important to develop experiences that encourage and expand the creative development of others — particularly children and their parents.”

The exhibit encourages learning and development through multi-sensory engagement and interactive entertainment. Through a series of joyously noisy experiments, kids can discover how sound is made, construct dynamic instruments with PVC piping, and learn about musical pitch, rhythm, and melody.

Blue Man Group ~ Making Waves is a national touring exhibit created by the Boston Children’s Museum, Blue Man Group, and the sound engineers at JBL®. Grand Rapids Children’s Museum (GRCM) is the eighth stop on the tour. The touring exhibition launched at the Boston Children’s Museum in fall 2006, and has since visited Chicago, Denver, Davie (FL), Long Island, Bainbridge Island (WA), and Miami. Making Waves will continue to be presented at museums in Bettendorf, Iowa; Greenville, South Carolina; Columbia, South Carolina; Asheville, North Carolina; Boca Raton, Florida; and other markets to be announced. For more information please visit the Blue Man Group Making Waves website.

Home Hospice Documentary at GRPL

The Grand Rapids Public Library has this event posted on their website so I just copied the details and pasted it here for you. This one might not be for everyone.

Hospice of Michigan has produced an excellent documentary “Except for Six” which follows three people on that journey. A majority of the documentary was filmed in West Michigan and has been getting notice from filmmakers such as Ken Burns. You may have heard about it last fall when it premiered at Celebration Cinema. Perhaps you’re like me — I wanted to go see it but I hesitated. Was I ready to watch a film about people making those end of life decisions?
Who is this film for? Those of us who are caregivers for the elderly or those with life-threatening illnesses struggling with these end of life issues. Those of us who question how we will face the end of our own lives. Those of us who want to be inspired as we are privileged to share the journey with people brave enough to allow us in. We are the ones who will benefit from their courageous odyssey with death.
Please join us Wednesday evening, March 11, starting at 6:30 pm, in the Main Library Auditorium or Tuesday afternoon, March 24, starting at 2:00 pm, in the Yankee Clipper Branch Auditorium for a showing of this film. There will be a time for discussion and questions following each film.
