With the economy as bad as it is and often being compared to the Great Depression I thought it might be wise to learn from those who suffered during that time. There are a lot of great money saving tips that we can use even today. So I've compiled some of those tips for you. Use what you can but remember that a key piece to surviving today's economy is that more is not better, it's just more. So try living on less.
1. Grow a garden
2. Enjoy the simple things - use the snow as your source of entertainment, play board games or video games you already have, use the library for all their FREE resources, make cookies together. Anything that we normally take for granted would be good to look at a little closer these days.
3. Consider changing your transportation lifestyle - maybe that means you get a smaller more gas efficient car, sell a car and live on just one, use your bike more or use the bus more.
4. Downsize your living situation - Maybe you don't need the big place you're living in and could move to something smaller more affordable.
5. If you're currently unemployed than maybe you should be willing to take whatever comes your way even if it's less money than what you've been making.
6. Redefine what you NEED - If you really looked at your NEEDS you'd find that you wouldn't spend near as much money on a regular basis.
7. Set up a budget - Keep track of where your money goes and start putting a cap on things.
8. Start saving - Put aside any amount of money you can in the case of an emergency
9. Make meals from scratch to save on your grocery bill
10. Reuse glass jars to store food
11. Live below your income - instead of waiting to pay your bills until you get your paycheck
12. Stay home instead of going out
13. Eat in
14. Skip the alcohol - Water is great for you anyways!
15. THIS ONE IS MY FAVORITE - Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.
I'm sure we can all find something on this list that we can at least start to try in our own lives.
